This is a series of photo illustrations I made to represent people’s recurring nightmares. I photographed college students because they have some of the highest stress levels out of the general population, which induces the frequency of nightmares. I used in-camera long exposures to create a representation of mental state, rather than a physical one. I also used a desk lamp with colored tissue paper for dramatic lighting, which coincided with the emotions each person said they associated with their recurring nightmare. The feeling associated with each nightmare was often fear or anxiety due to losing someone they love.
